The SJH Haulage Workhorse!

This week, we had a chat with Sean Haines from SJH Heavy Haulage to see how they are using their Brimarco trailer. Located in Walkerston, just outside Mackay in far north Queensland the good folk at SJH have been crisscrossing Australia with some pretty hefty payloads.

Sean called the trailer “pretty spot-on for what we needed”, having just described its recent trip from Mackay to Karratha in the Pilbara and then from Perth back across to Emerald. Since its purchase in January of 2019, the heavy-duty trailer has done over 100,000kms across Australia.

Chatting to Sean about why SJH chose Brimarco, he laughed and explained that “you answered your phone on a Friday” and that elsewhere “we can’t get a hold of somebody”. At Brimarco, we never knew that answering the phone on a Friday was a selling point, but we are proud to say that we do. Jokes aside, it is understandable that in this industry, service comes first. Knowing that when you call, someone will be willing to drop everything and help, makes all the difference. Thanks to the team at SJH Heavy Haulage for choosing Brimarco!

Larry Walsh’s ‘Tough As’ Trailer

Starting his own transport business in 1982, Larry Walsh has been anything but idle, eventually starting his own fertilizer sales and distribution service on the side. In 2001 he branched out into farming rice and now cotton, leaving fleet operations to one of his sons. Since then he’s been instrumental in developing Southern Cotton, a local ginning plant that won the 2015 Telstra Australian Business of the Year award.

At Brimarco, we like to follow up with how our trailers are going, to listen to our customers and learn about what they’ve been using them for. We value the feedback, what we could have done better, how we can tweak our designs. Chatting with Larry we’ve been learning how he’s using one of our 3.5m wideners and what it’s offered his business.

“From the first phone call to when we picked the trailer up, the experience was excellent”

With over 1200ha of irrigated cotton of his own and 1000ha of dry cereals of his own, Larry Walsh chose Brimarco’s ‘Tough As’ 3.5m widener to do all his dirty work. Since its purchase in 2017, he’s had “zero issues with it” having used it most days to move his overwidth excavators and tracked machinery around the farm. Describing it as “excellent value for money” Larry liked that he could buy local at a very competitive price. Larry’s trailer is just one of the many 3.5m Brimarco drop deck wideners that have become renowned for their durable build quality and on the job versatility.

“I’m local, I have a local business …. What goes around comes around”

Strongly believing that buying local was important, Larry aptly pointed out that whilst some trailers on paper looked very similar, when its made locally “you can look at it, talk to the people who built it”. At Brimarco we’ve been making trailers from the ground up in Australia for over 40 years. With decades of experience building trailers for all industries, we’ve felt the pain of hard droughts and the excitement of a good season. We believe in our product and want to work alongside our customers, to listen to their needs and innovate alongside them. We customize our products for what they’re being used for, we listen to our customer’s needs. If you are looking for a trailer, give us a call and we’ll see how we can add value to your business

Cardinia Shire’s NEW Mobile Library

The Cardinia Shire of Melbourne, one of Victoria’s fastest-growing districts, has for the past two decades, been faithfully served by just one of Brimarco’s many mobile libraries. The mobile libraries of Australia have been providing valuable learning resources to local communities for decades; these resources are invaluable as a way of educating Australia’s. As Victoria’s busiest mobile library, supporting over 55,000 visits every year, we are proud to have been approached to build its successor.

Brimarco was challenged with building a platform to support all the modern technology and accessibility of a purpose-built facility. This needed to be put into a format that can maneuver through both urban sprawl and open road reliably and efficiently. With over 40 years of experience building custom vehicles and trailers, Brimarco was thrilled to get a chance to build a new trailer to service this region.

Design Developments

For this unit, the Brimarco Capsule Widening system was extended along the length of a purpose-built monocoque chassis. This increased the potential capsule size to the full vehicle dimensions, further enabling an unparalleled space efficiency and spacious internal flow.

An extending rear accessibility platform houses stairs and a wheelchair lift enabling users to make full use of the generous internal space. Developments in composite production have allowed us to reduce vehicle weight and create single piece roofing and walling. This also serves to prevent any potential water ingress over time and streamlines production lead times.
